If you are in the greater NYC metro area this weekend, consider coming to St. Francis of Assisi Church on West 31st Street in NYC (less than a block from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden) for the 2011 Annual Francis-Week Lecture, this year delivered by Br. Dan Horan, OFM, of DatingGod.org. The title of the talk is, “Finding Francis on Facebook: Franciscan Spirituality and Mission in the Digital Age.” It is scheduled to take place at San Damiano Hall on 31st Street, at 3:30pm on Sunday October 2nd. Here is the description and additional information as found on the St. Francis Church Schedule of Events.
What does it mean to talk about living according to the Gospel in a technologically driven world? Can we find community and communion online? What relationship do popular social media have with Franciscan spirituality and Christian faith? This presentation by Br. Daniel Horan, O.F.M. will address both the challenges and opportunities that today’s technological revolution and social-media culture present to the Church, exploring some of the ways the Franciscan spiritual tradition might respond to the shifting communications culture and offer resources for Christians and spiritual seekers today.
Br. Dan is the author of the forthcoming book, Dating God: Franciscan Spirituality for the Next Generation.
